My Gift To You.
I know a great therapist who says, “The way we eat is the way we live.”
I remember hearing those words one time and they were imprinted in my soul for a lifetime. I’ll never forget because it changed me like any truth does. It helped move me into a deeper understanding about the importance of food as a way to get strong and how to use food as a way to examine more than just your body.
I have chosen Brigid as one of the STRONG coaches because I believe she is one of the best out there. She LIVES this. She is an an expert in functional nutrition AND she is an expert in my life. More than she knows really. She has helps me change and get stronger.
I struggled with food for most of my life and my relationship to it. I had so much secret shame about my struggle with food. I was unskilled, misguided and I tried all the fad diets that never worked and I felt miserable and depleted. I felt like I was running on a hamster wheel never getting to the goal or the place I wanted to get to. I was focused on losing weight rather than getting strong. For the last 5 years of my life my goal has been one word: STRONG. I have changed my habits, beliefs and choices and I have more than enough energy to live my life and feel ALIVE and I train my body hard. Food is fuel. Food is medicine
It is because of this that I am beyond excited for you and grateful to have such a superstar on this team. I remember her from 15 years back at Cleveland Yoga where I taught in a room packed with 80 people. Her big bright smile and light in her eyes drew me to her. She is born for this work and she is my gift to you.
An interview with Brigid!
1. Tell me who you are, where you live and what you do!
I'm Brigid--a functional medicine dietitian and coach for the Strong program! I am the owner of BeingBrigid Functional Nutrition Co which is a concierge functional nutrition business where I work one-on-one with business executives. I also offer nutrition programs and articles on my website, beingbrigid.com. I live in Florida temporarily but am originally from Cleveland!
2. How did you get started doing what you do?
In 2005, I was diagnosed with a neurological condition and my parents took me to see a functional medicine doctor. After making a variety of dietary changes and healing my gut, I was able to reduce my dependence on my medication. After witnessing the power of personalized nutrition and dietary changes, I decided that I would become a dietitian so that I could help other people understand how much diet influences our health.
3. What do you love most about your job?
I love connecting and exchanging energy with other people! I also love teaching others to become more aware of how their choices influence their energy, digestion, hormones, etc. Everyone always runs to their doctor to manage their health without realizing how much power they have to heal themselves.
4. What's a common misunderstanding people have about wellness & healthy eating?
I've never viewed food as something that I needed to restrict in order to eat low calories and lose weight. I have always viewed food as energy--how can I eat to help me feel more energized, focused, and functional.
5. What's something most people don't know about you?
I am in love with farm animals! I am currently working on decorating my boyfriend's house in Florida and am continuously picking out farm animal pictures for the house :)
6. Why are you excited about the strong program?
I am beyond excited for the strong program because it will change your life. I took Diana's teacher training two years ago--not because I wanted to teach yoga but because I wanted to heal myself. I was in a tough place--feeling broken from a devastating breakup and burnt out/unfulfilled in my job. The program was honestly the answer to my prayers. It helped me become stronger, regain my self-esteem, find the courage to quit my job (with no backup in place), and live in a much fuller way. It was a point of awakening for me and I am so excited for other people to experience that.
7. How do you know Diana?
I first went to one of Diana's yoga classes in 2007 or 2008 but it wasn't until I was practicing yoga regularly in 2012 that I started stalking all of the classes that she would teach. I was drawn to her energy and the way that she could light up any room. One of the beautiful thing about Diana is the space that she holds for herself and others, which has always allowed me to hold space for myself. So I continued going to her classes and wrote her a few messages about how much I appreciated her as a teacher. I'm honored to stand beside her throughout her training, as she has improved my life and emotional wellbeing in so many ways!
8. What else should we know?
I am so excited to be here with you for the program!
